Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the VALIS website (valis.gg), Discord bot, or any related services (collectively, the “Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use this Service. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement. If you are under 18, you must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

3. Accounts

When you create an account, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to:

• Provide accurate and complete information when creating your account
• Use a display name that exactly matches your Xbox or PlayStation gamertag. Your VALIS display name is the means by which staff and opponents verify your identity in matches and tournament play. You agree to keep your VALIS display name synchronized with your current console gamertag
• Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account
• Not share, sell, or transfer your account to any other person
• Not create multiple accounts for deceptive or abusive purposes
• Not impersonate other players, staff, or community figures through your display name or profile

Display name changes are permitted once every 14 days. If your console gamertag changes within that 14-day window, contact staff at competitive@valis.gg or on our Discord for a manual update. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

4. The Crucible League

VALIS operates a competitive league known as The Crucible. By participating, you agree to:

• Abide by all league rules and guidelines as published on the website
• Accept the results of the Crucible Rating (CR) system, including match outcomes, decay, and adjustments made by staff
• Compete fairly and not engage in match fixing, exploiting, or any form of cheating
• Accept that staff decisions regarding disputes, rule interpretations, and penalties are final

League rules, team standings, and match data may be reset between seasons at the discretion of staff.

5. Tournaments

VALIS operates bracket-style tournaments separate from the Crucible, including multiple minor tournaments and an annual year-end major. By participating in any tournament, you agree to:

• Abide by the published tournament rules and any per-tournament rulings issued by staff
• Field a roster that meets the minimum size, captain, and region requirements at all times during competition
• Accept that membership on a tournament team is request-based and subject to numerical limits — including a per-user cap of 3 simultaneous pending requests, a cooldown of 5 minutes between rejected re-requests to the same team, and automatic rejection of other pending requests in a region when you are approved onto a team in that region
• Accept that a user may be on at most one tournament team per region (NA or EU), and that staff alone control playoff and major seeding, including the eligibility gates that determine which teams qualify
• Accept that staff snapshots of team rosters are taken automatically at the time points are awarded, that these snapshots determine playoff and major eligibility, and that participation credit is tracked per-team — qualifier weeks played under a previous team do not transfer with you
• Compete fairly and refrain from match fixing, collusion, account sharing, exploiting, or any other form of cheating
• Accept that prize pools (when offered) are paid to a single team representative for internal distribution, and that disputes about internal team splits are outside staff jurisdiction
• Accept that match chat is provided to facilitate communication between competing teams during active matches. Messages are visible only to participating team rosters and staff, are subject to the same conduct standards as the rest of the Service, may be moderated or deleted by staff at their discretion, and are automatically and permanently purged when points are awarded for the relevant stage (qualifier or playoff) or when a major tournament is marked completed.
• Accept that staff decisions regarding disputes, rule interpretations, sanctions, and prize awarding are final

Per-week qualifier roster data is automatically purged when a minor completes, per-minor participation data is purged when the year-end major completes, and all match chat history is purged on the same schedule. Tournament team data, points totals, and bracket histories may be reset between seasons at the discretion of staff.

6. User Conduct

You agree not to use the Service to:

• Harass, threaten, or abuse other users
• Post or transmit any content that is unlawful, harmful, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise objectionable
• Impersonate any person or entity, or falsely represent your affiliation with any person or entity
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or any systems or networks connected to the Service
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers or networks connected to the Service
• Use automated scripts, bots, or other tools to access or interact with the Service without authorization

7. Intellectual Property

All content, branding, design, code, and materials on the Service are the property of VALIS or its licensors. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from any content on the Service without prior written permission.

By submitting content to the Service (such as team names or profile information), you grant VALIS a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, display, and distribute that content in connection with the Service.

8. Privacy

Your privacy is important to us. Please review our Privacy Policy for detailed information about how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data.

By using the Service, you consent to the collection and use of information as described in our Privacy Policy.

9. Email Communications

By creating an account, you may receive transactional emails related to your account (verification, password resets, security alerts). These are required for the operation of your account and are not marketing communications.

You may optionally subscribe to receive news, updates, and announcements. You can manage your email preferences at any time from your Account page. You may unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time without affecting your account.

10. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with third-party services including Discord (for authentication and community), Twitch (for live streaming), and Resend (for email delivery). Your use of these integrations is subject to the respective third-party terms and privacy policies. VALIS is not responsible for the practices of third-party services.

11. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

VALIS is not responsible for any loss of data, including but not limited to match history, team standings, or account information, resulting from technical failures or maintenance.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, VALIS and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the Service.

13. Modifications

We reserve the right to modify these Terms of Service at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the modified terms.

14. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately.
